The Blog
I started this blog to share and connect with others. The purpose of my writing is first and foremost to connect and engage – to bring together people who may relate to some of the thoughts, feelings and experiences I write about on this blog. If you read a post and find it resonates or provokes your mind, please leave a comment and share that.
Some colleagues and bloggers suggest that I’m too open…that I share too much of my personal life…that I’m too exposed and vulnerable in some of the things I write. “What’s your niche?” I’ve been asked and “You need to think about your branding” I’ve been told. Here’s where I address these questions and more:
My Niche
- The place suitable or appropriate for me is in a community: social networks online and offline – personal and professional, tribes of all sorts – business/corporate, non-profit, small groups, etc…
- The positions suitable or appropriate for me include (but are NOT limited to): writer, ghost writer, proofreader, editor, brand evangelist, connector, innovative thinker, business savvy contributor, team leader, team player, blogger, brainstormer, brilliant-idea producer, and collaborator.
- Distinct segment of the market suitable or appropriate for me is in: community-building, customer service, word of mouth marketing, new media, blogging, writing, social media and the general humanizing of business.
- My function within my community: connecting with, relating to and caring about people, sharing stories and experiences, engaging in conversations, learning people’s needs, seeking to bring people and resources together to get needs met, and building happier, healthier, stronger individuals and communities as an active member of the community.
My Brand
- A lot of heart, a lot of mind and a lot of life experience. Real, raw, open, honest, caring, thoughtful, well-reasoned, articulate, logical, emotional…very human. Quite often vulnerable and always authentic.
My Philosophy
- I believe in being transparent in motive and authentic in deed. For only in our transparency can we authentically connect; only in authentic connections do we thrive, both personally and professionally.
Monetization
- I am not compensated for anything penned in my name (on this blog or anywhere else on the web) unless clearly stated in the writing. Generally speaking, anything I write in my name is written for the sole purpose of sharing my life experiences, connecting with others and hoping to add value to at least one other person in some way by doing so. This, in itself, is personally rewarding. I don’t use affiliate links, and I don’t advertise on my blogs. It’s my intent to offer a pure expression of who I am, what I think, how I feel, where I’ve been and what I hope to share with the world. It comes from my heart and mind and is sent out to whoever might receive it and find something good in it. My blog is the bottle carrying many a message out into the ocean to see if it might find a home. No one gets paid to put their message in a bottle and toss it out to sea. Nor do I get paid to do so here.
